GFV Eye Care Mission to Kenya
Restoring Sight and Transforming Lives
GFV Mission Trip Report | June 13-24, 2026
From June 13–24, 2026, a team of 16 Great Faith Vision volunteers partnered with Chariots for Hope and Africa Inland Church Health Ministries (AICHM) to provide free eye care services to children at the Kaptagat, Ogada, and Mogogosiek Children's Homes, as well as individuals and families from the surrounding Kaptagat and Ogada communities.

Over six clinic days, we were joined by Kenyan volunteers to provide 955 eye examinations to children and adults with limited access to eye care. Patients received vision screenings, comprehensive eye exams, medications, and referrals for advanced treatment when needed.
One of the highlights of our mission was partnering with the two Kenyan nurses we trained last year to conduct vision screenings in their communities. Seeing them confidently use their skills to serve us and others was both rewarding and encouraging. Their expertise and work ethic greatly expanded our capacity, making it possible for us to examine far more patients than we could have otherwise.

By The Numbers:
-
955 patients: 285 children and 670 adults were examined
-
1,835 medications, eyeglasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses were dispensed
-
374 prescription eyeglasses were ordered and shipped from the USA for distribution to patients needing them
-
34 patients were referred for specialized ophthalmic care and surgery

Key Findings:
The outreach revealed a significant burden of preventable and treatable eye disease. The most common conditions identified included:
-
Dry Eye Syndrome: 38%
-
Chronic Allergic Conjunctivitis: 35%
-
Presbyopia (age-related near vision loss): 22%
-
Cataracts: 16%
-
Pinguecula (UV-related eye damage): 11%
-
Amblyopia (lazy eye): 9%
The team also identified patients with diabetic and hypertensive eye disease, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, retinal disorders, and several cases of eye infections. A substantial need for corrective lenses was addressed with 770 pairs of reading and prescription eyeglasses provided or ordered to improve education, employment, and daily living.

A key objective of our trip was to establish a sustainable, ongoing eye screening clinic. We are happy to report that we successfully trained two more Kenyans to perform vision screenings and to dispense ready-made eyeglasses, sunglasses, and eye drops in their communities.
We praise God for a team that worked well together toward these amazing results. Although we faced the expected need for in-the-moment decisions and adjustments, our time and travel went smoothly without disruptive illnesses or logistical issues. We trust that God will continue His work among the communities we impacted through Chariots for Hope and AICHM, and multiply our efforts. May the attention and glory go to Him.
A big thank you to all of you who made this trip possible with your prayers, involvement, and financial support. Your partnership was instrumental in its success. This accomplishment belongs as much to you as it does to those of us who served on the ground. Together, we made a lasting difference in the lives of those we were privileged to serve.
